FiLaC Laser Treatment for Anal Fistula

FiLaC (fistula tract laser closure) uses a radial laser fibre inside the fistula tract to close it while limiting damage to the surrounding sphincter muscle.

Principle of the technique

The laser fibre is advanced along the tract and withdrawn in a controlled manner, delivering circumferential energy that closes the tract wall. The internal opening is addressed according to the operative plan.

Mapped tract, often after MRI or examination under anaesthesia
Infection controlled beforehand where required
Priority on preserving continence
Realistic discussion of recurrence risk and possible repeat procedures
