SiLaC Laser Treatment for Pilonidal Sinus
SiLaC (sinus laser closure) treats the pilonidal tract with a laser fibre through the existing openings, avoiding a large open wound in suitable patients.
How it is performed
After the tract is cleaned of hair and debris, the laser fibre is introduced and withdrawn under control so that the tract wall is closed. Openings remain small, which supports comfortable aftercare.
Aftercare and prevention
- Keeping the natal cleft clean and dry
- Regular removal of loose hair from the area
- Avoiding prolonged pressure on the region during early recovery
- Attending follow-up to detect early recurrence

Frequently asked questions
Is SiLaC suitable during an active abscess?
Active infection is usually drained and settled first, with definitive treatment planned afterwards.
Can the disease recur?
Recurrence is possible with all pilonidal treatments; hygiene and hair control reduce risk.
What is recovery like?
Because openings are small, wound care is usually simpler than after wide excision, but recovery remains individual.
